If Evolution be True
(A theological message following the style of the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:1-58)
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I would like to remind you of the gospel which Paul and the other apostles preached, which is preserved in God’s Word the Bible, which you have received, and by which you stand. It is the gospel of faith in Jesus by which you are saved from eternal death, if you remember and believe the truth recorded in the Bible, unless you have believed in vain.
For Paul preached that which he had received, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; that He was buried and He rose again the third day according to the scriptures. That Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection were needed to pay for the sins of all people, so we might be spared from eternal death; because death is the penalty for sin (Rom. 6:23a).
Moreover, the Bible repeatedly states that God created the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that are in them in six days (Ex. 20:11a). That in the beginning, everything God made was very good (Gen. 1:31) and there was no death. That sin entered God’s perfectly good creation by the sin of Adam. That the creation was cursed because of Adam’s sin, so death entered the world and all mankind became sinners by nature. (Rom. 5:12)
The Scriptures teach us that death is an enemy and the only means of victory is by faith in Jesus Christ Who died to pay for our sin. The same Bible that teaches us of our need for (and means of) salvation, also teaches us of the entrance of sin and death into a perfect world miraculously created by the Holy God, which is why we need to be saved.
This is what Moses and the prophets taught, what Paul and the apostles preached, and what the Word of God records. And it is by faith in God’s infallible Word the Bible that your salvation stands.
If the Bible records that in the beginning was life . . . how say some among you that in the beginning was death?
Now if the Bible records that in the beginning was life (the self-existent, eternally living God who created the world), how say some among you that in the beginning was death? How can you believe that life evolved slowly over millions of years through a cruel process of struggle and death?
If people evolved slowly through a process of death, then death preceded people, so death could not be the result of sin. If all life is a result of death, then death is the creator whom we should welcome rather than an enemy we should fear.
If people evolved slowly through a process of death, then death preceded people, so death could not be the result of sin.
If evolution be true, then you have no eternal soul inside of you. If evolution be true, then your only purpose is to pass your genes on to the next generation and get out of the way. If evolution be true, then becoming worm food is all you have to look forward to.
If evolution be true, then there is no resurrection and Jesus cannot save us from death. And if there be no resurrection from the dead, then our preaching is vain, and your faith is also vain.
Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he created a perfect world and cursed the world with death because of sin, if so be that people evolved through death.
If evolution be true, your faith is vain, you are yet in your sins, and those who have fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If evolution be true, then we have hope only in this life. And those with an eternal hope in Christ are of all men most miserable. If evolution be true then what advantage is there to being good? If the dead rise not, let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die.
But now the Bible is true. Everything the Word of God records is accurate. God did create a very good, death free world in six days. And death did enter the world because of the sin of Adam.
Christ has risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. (1Cor. 15:20-23, 26 – KJV)
The gospel of salvation from sin, by faith in Christ for eternal life, through the resurrection of the dead, only makes sense in light of creation and the fall. Those who dishonor God by rejecting the truth of His Word about creation, those who believe instead the teachings of men regarding the origin of life, cannot please God. It is inconsistent to believe in salvation by faith in the Word made flesh, if you do not believe the Word was eternal and made all things as recorded in the Bible.
The gospel of salvation . . . only makes sense in light of creation and the fall.
But some will say, “What about fossils and the geological record, don’t they prove evolution and billions of years?” Thou fool, why do you believe the constantly changing words of men rather than the unchanging Word of God? Most fossils and the “geological record” are evidence of the flood that occurred in the days of Noah as recorded in the book of Genesis.
The billions of dead things we find buried in rock layers indicate that the world was subjected to a watery catastrophe that rapidly buried living things in sediment laid down by water. Uniformitarianism with its slow gradual changes over millions and billions of years cannot explain the fossils and geology we see.
If evolution were true, we should find transitional forms in the fossil record, but we don’t. The fossils are all fully formed even in the bottom most layers. There are fossils of sea shells on the tops of mountains. There are sedimentary rock layers covering all of the continents. These things demonstrate that water once covered the whole earth, just as it is written in the Bible.
Some might say, “If God created the world, where did God come from?”
But some might say, “If God created the world, where did God come from?” Thou fool, open your eyes! The evidence of God and His creation are clearly seen (Rom. 1:19-20).
The law of cause and effect is well established. Everything must have a cause. God is the supreme eternal being that created everything else. As limited finite beings, we cannot understand a self-existent, infinite God, but that does not change the truth.
The only alternative to believing in a supreme God who created everything is to believe that everything came into being without a cause. This is contrary to the law of cause and effect, and is inconsistent with the world you observe around you every day.
Matter and energy do not just spontaneously pop into existence. Explosions destroy things and create chaos, not order. Things naturally run down, wear out, and get worse; they do not evolve into something better.
Things naturally run down, wear out, and get worse; they do not evolve into something better.
Denying the existence of God does not make evolution true or explain how it could be. It is time to open the eyes of your understanding and believe the Word of God.
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (1Cor. 15:50-58 – KJV)
